Another area where the influence of the oil industry has been felt is in their requirement for much more detailed documentation than that which would be the standard for conventional shipbuilding. Code data books are required for individual components, all of which must carry unique tag numbers.
Product history and traceability is required. Documentation and drawingsare frequently requested in computer floppy disc format, as well asconventional hard copies.
11. Why choose Tanabe?
Tanabe's first order for compressors for an FPSO vessel came in 1992 froma shipyard in Korea. Although we had no previous experience we were stillvery well qualified. As the world's foremost marine compressor maker we were the market leader in both Korea and Japan and we were one of the very few marine compressor manufacturers who could provide both piston and screw type compressors with class approvals.
The company was established in Japan 75 years ago and production is centred on our two factories at Osaka and Nagoya. Tanabe have already we have been producing screw compressors for more than 15 years and the company enjoys a reputation for innovation. Numerous important developments have been pioneered at the independent Tanabe Research Institute at Nagoya. The factory meanwhile enjoys an unequalled reputation for quality, being an approved manufacturer to the Japanese Navy and certified to ISO 9001 by the very stringent Japanese High Pressure Gas Association.
Since that first FPSO order in 1993 Tanabe have supplied systems to various shipyards, a number of whom have been in Singapore. My first experience with a UAS control system was on the vessel "Solitaire" (LRS class) at Sembawang Shipyard. Shortly thereafter we contracted with Keppel Shipyard for the compressed air system on the conversion of the "Cossack Pioneer" (ABS class). We also contracted with Far East Levingstone Shipyards for each of their three FPSO new buildings for Norwegian owners, all to DNV class; Smedvig SPU-380, Statoil B.238 and Saga Petroleum B.241.
Tanabe have the equipment, the expertise and the experience to supply compressed air systems for all you marine requirements.
